Hew & Wha?

Hewers of wood and drawers of water – that phrase was once meant as an insult to Canadians.
But here at the Hew & Draw Hotel, we don’t see it that way.

We are proud of the fact that our families have worked on the water and in the forests of Western Newfoundland for generations. Our name pays homage to the area’s abundance of natural resources, wilderness and hardworking people. And as a family-owned, independently-run business, we are some of those people. We’ve dealt with our fair share of fish guts, splinters and black fly bites, but in between we’ve always known the Bay of Islands to be one of the most spectacular locales on earth.

Old & New

To showcase that beauty, we revitalized a historic building in Corner Brook’s downtown that blends touches of the past into a contemporary, sustainable property. You’ll feel the echo of our forestry industry as you walk across our natural hardwood floors, and maybe catch a glimpse of a caribou or two in one of our 36 rooms, each one as unique as this little nook of the North Atlantic.

Local & Sustainable

Plus, when you stay with us, you’re not just supporting one local business. We collaborate with our community on everything from the soap by your sink, to the paintings on our walls and the coffee in your cup. And we envision a future for Western Newfoundland as beautiful as the one that exists today. That’s why you won’t find any single-use plastics in your room, but you will find electric vehicle charging stations in our parking lot.

We may have swapped flies for fine linens and calluses for a cozy fireplace, but at heart we’re still adventurers.

And we hope you’re up for an adventure too.
